Milestone: Portfolio Value Reaches $60,000

Today my portfolio's value reached $60,000 for the very first time, closing at $60,463.02, thanks to a broad market rally and a recent influx of new capital from my August savings. The previous milestone of $50,000 was reached in March, which implies a $10,000 increase over the past six months. Even though my primary focus is on dividends, I also care about capital preservation and total return, both of which are reflected in my portfolio's value.

The next milestone is $70,000 (I figure that $10,000 increments are reasonable), but I probably won't reach it until next year.

  2. Congratulations! It feels good to cross these $10k marks. Although growing passive dividend income is what we all ultimately care most about, total return and capital preservation are also extremely important.

It's just unfortunate that the portfolio's overall rise in value had to come at the expense of an expensive market.

I see you and I are sitting on similar amounts of cash (~$4k). I'm finding it difficult to find value, but I will deploy that cash this month. I'm looking forward to owning either positions in new companies or increasing my ownership percentage in existing positions.

    Best wishes!

    1. Dividend Mantra: Your comment echoes my mixed feelings today. On the one hand, I am glad to reach a new milestone. On the other hand, I am disappointed that the market rally that helped me reach the milestone has made it more difficult to find attractively valued stocks.

I am okay with continuing to sit on my cash for a while, in part because I want to see the reaction to the Fed meeting next week (September 12-13). Regardless of what happens, I may compel myself to make a purchase in the second half of the month, just to put a bit of cash to work.

  3. Congrats on your 60k Milestone. I should hit that sometime this year also. Each future 10k Milestone should take less time to hit barring a huge market correction.
