Dividend Increase: NSC

Norfolk Southern (NSC) is increasing its quarterly dividend by 3.8%, from $0.52 to $0.54 per share, putting the company on track for its 13th consecutive year of dividend growth (news release). This increase comes just two quarters after the company's previous increase, announced in July 2013. Given that I own 95 shares of NSC, my quarterly dividend increases from $49.40 to $51.30 and my yield on cost becomes 3.21%. The extra $7.60 in annual dividend income raises my forward 12-month dividend total to $4,023.

  1. Hi DGM That is good news, nice to see the div increases, hoping as with last year all these positions plus INTC do the same. Thanks

    1. Div Investor: This dividend increase was a pleasant surprise. I wonder if NSC will be resuming its previous pattern of dividend growth every two quarters. If so, then I will be a very happy shareholder.

  2. I have read about this dividend increasing on the blog from AAI.
You both have this company - I have only think about Union Pacific.
I think I will join you both and buy this year also Norfolk Southern...

    1. D-S: I have a favorable view of railroads in general, which is what led me to invest in CNI, NSC, and UNP. At some point in the future I would like to increase my CNI and UNP positions because both are relatively small.
