Dividend Increase: O

Realty Income (O) is increasing its monthly dividend by 0.2%, from $0.1818542 to $0.1821667 per share, which represents the company's 74th dividend increase since 1994 (news release [PDF]). Effective with January's payment, this counts as a dividend increase for 2014. Given that I own 110 shares of O, my monthly dividend increases from $20.00 to $20.04 and my yield on cost becomes 5.61%. The extra $0.48 in annual dividend income keeps my forward 12-month dividend total at $3,912.

  1. New to DGI, how do you keep track of these news. Any easy means I can get a feed for the stocks I own. Thanks

    1. Anonymous: For stocks that usually increase their dividends just once per year, I mark down the date of last year's increase and then stay on the lookout for news releases at around the same time during the current year. For stocks that increase their dividends more than once per year (or not at the same time each year), I monitor websites like Seeking Alpha and Yahoo Finance for the announcements by setting up a portfolio at each site to get headlines only for my stocks. I don't know if there are any customizable feeds that an investor can make solely for dividend increase announcements.

    2. Thanks DGM. It makes sense. Will try to do the same and see how it works for my flow.

    3. just another tip, if u want to do this. I keep a spreadsheet of all holdings and just update it whenever a dividend is declared (dec date, ex-div date, rec. date and pay date), I order the tabs based on when in the month they usually declare. This makes it easy to just click on thru as the month progresses.

In addition to helping me keep track of divvy raises, this is how I track/calculate dividend growth.

this may be a little more than most do though.

    4. Anon: To keep track of news on my portfolio I created a portfolio on seekingalpha.com. Then it populates news and opinion pieces on those equities.
There is so much going on in the financial world, especially if you get 20 or more positions, that its hard to keep up with everything. So I rely on authors and bloggers to keep me updated. I am sure that my own entries and comments keep others updated on various things.

  2. I like O for this increase. They increased twice already - once in January 2013, second in June and now. I think the total increase was 5.2% for the year. What a great record.

I own 142 shares of this company and receiving 25 bucks every month. What a great feeling seeing this amount landing in my account every month and I do not have to deposit it from my own cash!

    1. Martin: O has compiled a great dividend growth record. Add in the monthly dividend payments and it works out to be a good investment.
